As a Futures Archaeologist I work with organizations that need a direction they can argue with, not another scan of what might happen.
“My field isn’t the past — it’s the future.”
For me the future is like an archaeological site. It is layered, not written, and with more than one place to dig. Futures Archaeology is a foresight sequence I have developed over more than a decade. It sits between foresight, design, and strategy.
I am curious about topics that could change how the world works, and I would rather ask what a future could be than what it will be. The rest of the work is deciding which of those futures are worth pursuing, and what that asks of today.
to be confused.
to be fascinated.
to be pretentious.
to be indifferent.
to be bored.
Room I keep…to create.
to notice.
to wonder.
to have time.
to make things visible.
not to be commercial.
not to become an expert.
not to know what my future is.
... to remembeR I studied computer science at the University of Stuttgart and began my career at the IBM Silicon Valley Lab. At UBS I held various roles in engineering. I founded and ran the CTO IT R&D Lab in Zürich, and in 2014 founded Y Think Tank, the bank’s futures platform, and led it. In 2022 the “Futures Unlocked” exhibition at UBS headquarters showed several future artifacts from that work.
I have been on the board of swissfuture since 2023, and co-president since 2025. I am a guest lecturer at the HWZ (Hochschule für Wirtschaft Zürich). From 2017 to 2023 I sat on the advisory board of the HWZ Institute for Digital Business.
